You're arguing on grammar, straw argument. You're only furthering my point that writing a lot of the time has very little relevance. Also I never said that immigrants should be given a free education, they should fund their own unless they show academic merit that awards them scholarships just like everyone else. The more I read these posts the more it exemplifies laziness today. Everyone feels so entitled and just builds excuses and trues to make society work around them. That's not how life works, hopefully at some point you'll realize that. Again, stated my point, honestly tired of this thread. I think the reason he isn't really responding to your argument properly is because your argument is asinine, Pylons. To argue that writing isn't necessary to society is asinine. To argue that scientific writing is the only form of writing that can ever be valued by society is asinine. Explain to me what our world would look like without writing. Explain to me what it would look like without some of the prolific writers I named off in my previous post, or without any prolific writers in general. And have fun with that, because a world without them would be s***. Also, you're talking at us like we're lazy, which I don't understand. Where did that argument even come into play? I have a pretty thorough understanding of how the world works, so if you're talking to me, I take offense to that. And I agree with you, Cal. Citizens should definitely be given free education. The education system in America is horrible. Edit: to the whole thing about wasting time and such, all life is is just wasting time. Would you rather waste your time making money and buying possessions that will be worthless in the long run, or would you rather surround yourself with family, friends, and activities that bring joy to your life? If your answer is the former, great for you, but I like, many other people, care more about actually living than making money by being a doctor or some other overhyped profession. I think the "point based immigration system" is a good idea.I think most of you don't seem to understand the "root" objective of this "system".The "primary goal" of this "system" is to "maximise" the "potential" advantages obtained from immigration. The main objective is regulate immigration to the named country. So in that sense obviously a doctor or in general any "technically skilled" (highly) person or an investor or an entrepreneur will have more preference than an "artist" because in the long run he is working in the "economic development"(that is either maximising it or bringing it to a stable level) of the country.Whereas an artist is skilled but is skills don't have "priority" in this "domain" and hence he has a lower preference here. It's the "smoke" that makes you all forget what the basics are.In this case you didn't understand or probably forgot about the "primary" objectives of a "point based system for immigrants". |

And my points were that the system doesn't actually achieve that. It's not advantageous to have more engineers and doctors. It basically creates a more uneven society than what you had before. You might have a stronger health service but at the same time you'll be lacking in other areas. If you have gaps in certain areas of employment then this leads to economic instability. It's not desirable in the long term. |

@pelador No that will not happen.Because a "true artist" will work in the field which he is very "fond of or passionate" about."Salary difference" will not bother him.And people who give "more value to money" will take the field which gives them more money. I think its the "smoke" thats playing "tricks" on your mind.I think your confused.You don't know which to choose "The follow your dreams side" or "money is the sixth sense side". Don't worry about which side is "good or better or bad or worst" side.The "Truth" is both sides are "good and bad". So if you believe in "money having more value than any other thing in life",then don't be afraid to.And don't believe in the nonsense "Money can't buy happiness".The truth is it can buy. So the choice is yours and yours only . Remember no choice is good or bad.Its what you believe in. |

I'm going to have to agree with the idea that doctors should get the first chance at getting in over an artist and musician. You guys can try to say outrageous things such as "What if someone is depressed and that musician's song will make him not want to kill himself?" Come on, seriously? Also, Pelador said something about a generation of doctor's kids not wanting to be a doctor because their parent was. Personally, I think this is just a stupid comment. I know many people who have had parents as doctor/s, and a lot of them went on to be doctors as well. My Dad is a dentist, I plan to go into the medical field as well. Not only that, but a son of a farmer can also choose to pursue a medical job, and this happens a lot. Saying that the children of a doctor won't become doctors just because their parent was a doctor is just a poor rebuttal at best. Edited by Master Gohan, Oct 17 2014, 08:49 PM.
